Small Trachea - The trachea is the main trunk of the system of tubes by which air passes to and from the lungs in vertebrates. So when a Bulldog has a Small Trachea it makes breathing more difficult.
Stenotic Nares - This is a birth defect. The nostrils of Bulldogs have been known to be too small and/or the cartilage of the nostrils to be too soft for the dog to breath through, and on inhaling the nostrils can collapse.
Hip Dysplasia - In hip dysplasia the head of the femur joint does not sit firmly into the cup of the hip socket, causing the joint to be loose and painful when the dog walks or runs.
Entropian - With Entropian the eyelids roll in, and they eye lashes or hair rub on the surface of the eye, irritating and causing minor scratches. If left untreated, in time, this can lead to a lessening of eyesight.
Ectropian - Ectropian is the drooping or curling out of theeyelids, causing dry eyes, and accumulation of foreign debris.
Cherry Eye - Cherry eye is the rupture of the Harderian Gland or Third Eyelid. It is very obvious when your dog gets this. A big pink/red swollen mass will appear on the eye (in the corner).
Luxating Patella - A dislocating kneecap can be either inherited or caused by an accident. The kneecap is a small bone on the front of the stifle to cover the joint that slides along a groove in the femur bone. When this bone slips (due to possibly weak ligaments, poor alignment of the muscles, or a lack of a groove in the femur) the dog will become lame.
Dry Eye - It is caused by the lack of tear production in the eye.Either the nerves have failed to stimulate the tear glands, or the tear glands are no longer working, or the ducts that carry the tears to the eyes are blocked.
Inverted Tail - Sometimes happens when Bulldogs have very tightly screwed tails. They are incredibly hard to keep clean and you may notice an oder from the tail area.
Prolapsed Urethra - A prolapsed urethra looks like a small red doughnut at the tip of the penis. This is caused by licking the penis, either by the dog itself or by other dogs.
